The Steve Jones Trio/Quartet

The Steve Jones Quartet is a Seattle-based acoustic jazz piano trio with saxophone, featuring Paul Storz on upright bass, Brad Papineau on drums, Steve Jones on piano, and Rex Olsen on tenor saxophone. This group plays song-form jazz tunes in a lyrical yet swinging style. The group’s sound influences are the Keith Jarrett Trio, the Dave Peck Trio, the Bill Evans Trio and the Chick Corea Akoustic Band.

This job is GREAT! Steve Jones retired from the PC technology industry in 2010, studying privately with local jazz piano artist Dave Peck. Steve enjoys the fresh lyrical and swinging jazz styles of Chick Corea and Keith Jarrett, and is most in his element building happy groups of people working together to have fun. Steve, wife Andrea, and family live in Bellevue.
Brad Papineau Brad Papineau has been playing the drums in Seattle for close to 20 years. He is originally from New Jersey, but did not take up music until after he moved to the Northwest in 1991. Brad loves playing jazz, but feels the term is limiting and can be applied to all types of music. Brad says, “Jazz is the spirit of sharing, communicating and improvising and lets all do that as much as possible!
Paul Storz Paul Storz has played bass regularly since his college days in Bay Area clubs, playing in a variety of genres, including high energy band The Schematics. Seeking the more mature sound of the double bass, Paul studied classically for several years with Seattle’s premere bass instuctor, Anna Doak, performing the classical bass repertoire through various recitals in the area. Since then, Paul has become increasingly involved with jazz bass, studying with Seattle’s own bass powerhouse Clipper Anderson, and now enjoys holding down the bottom end with The Steve Jones Trio, finding the improvisation both artistically and spiritual rewarding.
Rex Olsen Rex Olsen has been a member of several jazz, blues, and standards ensembles, including The Eagle Harbor Jazz Ensemble, the Madison Avenue Jazz Band, the Winslow Way Trio and other groups. He has played with jazz notables including Mark Young, Dave Carson, and T.J. Wheeler. Sax players he admires include Houston Person, Will Donato, and Scott Hamilton. When not playing sax Rex restores vintage saxophones and writes fiction and poetry. He lives on Bainbridge Island with his wife, Elizabeth, and a parakeet named Ella Fitzgerald.
