Steve Jones is a Northwest native, resident in the Seattle area for the last 27 years. Though classically trained, Steve has always had jazz in his life, playing alto and tenor saxophone in college, and later studying jazz piano with Seattle’s own Dave Peck and Darin Clendenin. Favorite piano players are Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett, Herbie Hancock, Benny Green, George Cables and Dave Peck.
After retiring from the PC technology space in 2010, Steve established the Seattle Area Jazz Musicians meet-up group, now networking together over 750 local amateur and professional jazz musicians. Jazz jams and independent groups often sprout up from this project.
In 2013 Steve was invited to play piano with the Music Center of the Northwest big band, playing gigs around the Seattle area. In this band, he met the trio’s soon to be bass player, Paul Storz.
In 2018 Steve played with Route 66, a local big band, and in 2019 and into 2020, focuses on his trio, preferring chamber music to larger ensemble playing.
